The story of this earring also began with a heart.
 
At the third edition of As One; We Craft, held on 13 June 2026, a single sheet of 18K yellow gold was passed from person to person, with each participant invited to leave their own mark on its evolving form. Through this shared process, three unique pieces of jewellery emerged, each shaped by many hands, yet carrying its own story.
This single earring became a small, growing leaf.
 
The first participants envisioned shaping the gold into a heart — a symbol of love, connection, and goodwill. As the piece continued to pass from one person to another, the original heart was gradually reshaped. Each participant responded to what had been created before, adding, altering, and transforming the form in their own way.
By the final stage, the heart had quietly evolved into a delicate leaf.
 
The leaf is brought to life with a playful arrangement of unheated sapphires from Sri Lanka, a single tsavorite from Kenya, and brilliant small diamonds. Rather than being set in the conventional direction, the gemstones are intentionally mounted with their pavilion points facing outward. Their pointed forms rise from the surface like tiny shoots reaching upward, creating a sense of movement and growth.
 
Turn the earring over, and another detail reveals itself. Engraved lines trace the back of the gold in the pattern of a leaf’s veins, echoing the natural structure of the form and leaving behind a quiet record of its transformation.
 
The way the gemstones are set reflects the spirit of the piece itself. Something unexpected can emerge when we are willing to look at familiar things differently. What might normally be hidden beneath a gemstone is deliberately brought into view, transforming an unconventional choice into part of the design.
 
Small and still unfolding, the leaf carries the quiet feeling of something at the beginning of its growth. Its form emerged naturally through the process, revealing itself only as the many contributions came together. Like a young leaf, it speaks of possibility — something still becoming, with its future yet to be defined.
 
The making of the earring follows the same idea. No participant knew exactly what the final form would become. Each person worked with what had been left by those before them, accepting, adapting, and adding to it. The heart was gradually transformed, not by one person's vision, but through the accumulation of many perspectives.
 
The original heart therefore remains at its core.
 
It became a leaf — a symbol of growth, renewal, and possibility.
 
More than a single earring, it is a reminder that growth can begin with something very small. An idea. A gesture. A heart. Passed from one person to another, it can take root, change form, and eventually become something none of us could have imagined at the beginning.
 
A heart became a leaf — and love found a way to grow.
